My Worn Bible...

I sleep with my Bible that is falling apart, from the embracing when the pain of suffering is to much. I like those well-worn pages of my Bible telling a beautiful story. Every wrinkle marks a spot where I visit over and over again to meet God. The notes written in the margin are reminders of lessons learned, questions asked, and surrender given. In a few places, I  find smeared ink where my tears have fallen, battles have been fought, and sins have been forgiven. The cracked, worn binding of my Bible reveals strength that has been unleashed in prayers as the words of God have breathed life into my soul....

It’s not uncommon for a pastor to be told, “When you said that in your message, it was just what I needed.” Somehow during the sermon, God spoke to the person’s heart with a message tailor-made for him or her. If you've ever read the Bible and sensed God speaking directly to you, you know what I’m talking about. God has hard-wired you with His Spirit, who illumines your mind to understand His Word.
Imagine getting a “text message” directly from the Creator of the universe telling you exactly what you need at exactly the right time. No matter how high-tech this world gets, you'll never experience a more powerful mode of communication!
Rejoice in the reality that “we have received . . . the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Cor. 2:12).

Someone once wrote: “I’d like to buy three dollars’ worth of God. Please, not enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep, but just enough to equal a cup of warm milk or a snooze in the sunshine. I want ecstasy, not transformation. I want the warmth of the womb, not a rebirth. I want a pound of the eternal in a paper sack. I’d like to buy about three dollars’ worth of God, please.” I wonder if you are among those who want just enough of God to get yourself to a comfortable place, but not enough to pay the price of a deepening relationship with Him.

A Bible that is falling apart, probably belongs to someone who's life isn't falling apart..

There have been instances when a Bible passage jumped out at me while I was reading—the guidance I sought was right there, almost as if it had my name written on it. To hear from God in this way, quiet meditation is essential. At times, God will change a situation to redirect us, or He will motivate another person to give advice and guidance.
"Something I am worried about and keeping a close eye on is when I am reading the scripture now, I don’t want to be more focused on what I am going to say about it rather than Gods words themselves. It’s just like when you are supposed to be listening to someone, but you are too busy thinking of what your going to say next, that you don’t soak in everything."
