Luke 7:11-15-16-17

I was mediating on Luke 7:11-15-16-17. Not long after that, Jesus went to the village Nain. His disciples were with him, along with quite a large crowd. As they approached the village gate, they met a funeral procession—a woman’s only son was being carried out for burial. And the mother was a widow. When Jesus saw her, his heart broke. He said to her, “Don’t cry.” Then he went over and touched the coffin. The pallbearers stopped. He said, “Young man, I tell you: Get up.” The dead son sat up and began talking. Jesus presented him to his mother. They all realized they were in a place of holy mystery, for the pass 2 years or more we all seem to be in a holy mystery. All of a sudden popping up on a funeral.

All the stuff we would prefer never to experience again, the trauma and difficulties, the grief, the rejection and being ignored. All these experiences have left their mark on us. We need to bring them to the surface of our lives, so that God can heal them so that the negative effects of these challenges go out of our lives. When Jesus saw her, his heart broke. He said to her, “Don’t cry.” Then he went over and touched the coffin. The pallbearers stopped. He said, “Young man, I tell you: Get up.” The dead son sat up and began talking. Jesus presented him to his mother.

We have to look at this like the disciples....Our Lord always told his disciples that he would rise. They were astonished to hear that he would die at all: they could not think it possible that he could die by the terrible death which he often hinted at. Had they understood and really believed that he would rise again, they might not have been so surprised by his death, but often as he spoke of it, their minds seemed to have been like their eyes on some occasions, blinded so that they could not see, and if they perceived his meaning, it ran so contrary to all their ideas of a kingdom for a Messiah, that they could not somehow grasp it as a reality.
