Friendship..
Friendship.. What every living soul in the world craves and can’t possibly live without.
Why do we need those familiar faces? Those feelings of affection and warmth that radiates from a good friend is invaluable. That sensation of belonging in the universe when you find others like yourself can’t be found anywhere else except in love, but isn’t love the ultimate form of friendship?
Anyhow, the puzzling but nonetheless important question to adress is… What would it be like without any friends? Why is the solitude so frightening and undesirable for so many individuals? Why do we have this innate need of communion? Some people handle solitude better than others but truly none can live completely void of familiar faces.
Think about that for a minute. Think how life would be experienced for the individual if every human being lived like that scene in the Matrix. Just passing strangers by, expressionless faces coming at you and leaving you like the wind. No one knowing a single thing about the other, just passing each other by and by, endlessly. Oh the horror..
But that does indeed happen to us, and actually happens everyday. Walking around in a crowded city will place you in this very circumstance. But why aren’t we in the slightest afraid of this scenario when we are in it? Why don’t we just scream on the top of our lungs when finding ourselves in the middle of the crowd, because of the terror?
I’ll tell you why. Because we know that our circle of fellowship awaits us somewhere else, even though they are not currently present, the circle does exist. This circle creates and gives us the strongest sense of foundation in a evermore louder and busier world. Friends and family gives us sanity in what otherwise would be an insane world. Every time I see that scene from the Matrix, I can’t help but to cringe.
