Wisdom (2 Samuel 21:18-22)

As I get older, God is teaching me about wisdom. I heard a sermon on (2 Samuel 21:18-22) King David was now older, weaker, and slower. God still loved David, but the people loved him more for the memory of the past than the strength of the present. Yet even in these twilight years, David accomplished more through wisdom than he accomplished before in the strength of his youth. We all love the story of David in his youth, taking down Goliath, 50 years later, David is pouring in his experiences into 3 warriors. For me one Goliath is an accomplishment of a lifetime. Now, in his twilight years, David got credit for killing 4 giants despite his age and weakness. He did it by pouring into : SibbechaiElhanan, and Jonathan. To be honest...this is the first I have heard of this story.

As David grew weaker physically, he stayed strong spiritually and was also strong in wisdom. Instead of isolating himself, highly conscious of his weakness, he poured into others and continued to serve God greatly. God is speaking to me.

Think, beloved, how the Lord is still crowning us with lovingkindness and tender mercies.“ I know you are not strong, but then you do not have that acute pain you used to have. I know that you are growing old, but that only means that you are getting so much nearer to heaven. I know your friends are fewer than they used to be, but then those who are left are true friends. So you see that you are still crowned with lovingkindness and tender mercies..”

Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Child of God, its your responsibility to sharpen the ones you love to become better people. Set goals for your loved ones and help them achieve them. Push them to get out and be active. Meet different people and do different things. Be open to be sharpened by those who love you. Father God, help us not be complacent with life no matter where we are today. Help us motivate others to reach higher. In Jesus name, Amen
